Combating January Blues and Creating January Woos: Tips from Organic Recruitment

As we brush off the remnants of the festive season and gear up for the year ahead, let's address the elephant in the room - the January Blues.

We're all familiar with the post-Christmas lull, the dwindling daylight, and the financial pinch. It's a time when resolutions loom large and the pressure of a new beginning can feel overwhelming.

But fear not! We're here to help you transform your January Blues into a season of joy, opportunity, and wellness.

Here's what our well-being expert, Matthew Cameron, has to say.

Tip #1 : Embrace Your Individuality

We all have unique ways of embracing January.

Personally, I hit the gym twice a day to kickstart my productivity and uplift my mood. However, this extreme approach isn't for everyone. Some of you might prefer a 'no-spend' January to reset your finances, while others might find joy in 'try-January,' trying out new experiences and supporting local businesses.

Remember, there's no one-size-fits-all solution. The key to combating January Blues lies in finding a strategy that resonates with your personality and lifestyle. So, whether it's a quiet pint with friends at the end of the week (also important for me), a rigorous fitness routine or a favourite hobby, do what makes YOU feel good.

Tip #2 : The Power of Small Steps

It's all about taking small, manageable steps towards your goals.

Consider the analogy of cleaning a house. It's not one grand task but a combination of small activities and instead of aiming for an immaculately clean house, it's far more productive to aim for a cleanER house.

In the same vein, don't set out to achieve a colossal goal all at once. Aim for smaller goals, celebrate your small wins and love the process rather than stressing over the end results.

James Smith, a renowned fitness expert, once said, "Don't try to lose 10kg, try to lose 1kg ten times." This wisdom applies not just to weight loss but to all aspects of life.

Small, sustainable, positive changes.

Tip #3 : Stay Active

Yes, the chilly weather might tempt you to snuggle up under a warm duvet and binge-watch your favourite shows, and while we all need these restful days, staying active is crucial for our well-being. Remember, this doesn't mean gruelling workouts; a simple walk or gardening can do wonders.

In fact, engaging in such physical activities for just 120 minutes a week can reduce the risk of future depression by 63%. So let's make the most of the natural beauty around us and keep our bodies moving.

Tip #4: Love Yourself

Lastly, and most importantly, show kindness to yourself.

The year is long, and January is just the beginning. Whatever you choose to do, ensure it brings you joy and helps you love yourself more. Embrace these feelings as normal and remember to love the journey.
